Sometimes, good things happen from the most unexpected events.
Hi, my name is Selina and I am currently an intern at Forenom in Helsinki. My story with Forenom started extraordinarily, with a 4 month stay at Helsinki Hostel Pitäjänmäki during my study semester abroad. Forenom provided my fellow students and I an easy and enjoyable home away from home. Little did I know, that Forenom would soon become an important milestone in my career. Forenom´s versatility and my own curiosity inspired me to take the initiative to apply to an open internship application in the Operations Team.
“Getting to know the Forenom apartment lifecycle” was one of the main learning objectives from my internship agreement, which turned out to be much more colourful and diverse than I expected.
In February 2022, I began the program with a very active job that required creativity and physical strength at the same time: apartment furnishing. Through maintenance work and the furnishing process, I gained first hand experience and knowledge about our products and how processes run behind the scenes. And the best part about this: I got to work at the office, that is located in the same building as the hostel I used to stay at.
I value Forenom´s open-mindedness the most. You want to know why? While I was still involved in operational projects, some of my closest work colleagues, and by now friends, have approached me without hesitation and asked if I would like to try out their field of work. After brief consultations, I joined the sales team to do business with multinational corporate clients. The only thing I knew at this time was that I very much disliked phone calling.
Learning begins at the edge of the comfort zone.
Outbound and inbound calling, cold calling and developing negotiation skills with business partners are a few examples of what I was suddenly doing on a daily basis. Good news: I overcame my biggest fears through daily support and thus developed immensely personally and professionally. Thank you for everything so far!
Since majoring in business psychology, Forenom´s B2B marketing activities caught my attention. Especially since I had only learned about B2C marketing strategies in university lectures back in my home country. And you guessed it. The next part of my internship was just one phone call away. Great teamwork, 100% trust and brave decisions have particularly shaped this period. What I personally enjoyed most was the social media reporting of our unique One Forenom Day in Stockholm. Thank you to everyone who was involved in making this day so special for all Forenomians.
Forenom truly helped me to actively put the word “international” into practice. Not only that, but I get to work at a foreign company where more than 17 languages are currently spoken. Together with a young, professional and enthusiastic team we are exploring and opening new business segments in international markets.
When I think about what I appreciate most about this internship, it certainly is all the professional experiences I have had with Forenom. However, what I value even more is the supportive team, characterized by cooperation, spontaneity, and professionalism! It is rare to feel the company’s values so firmly anchored in everyday work as at Forenom. We are brave, we are 100% open, and we can do anything: together!
